Insistence on desalination of sea water as alternative

By: Jose Antonio Perezan agreement for the carrying out of a feasibility study for the installation of a sea water desalination plant, into which nearly two millions pesos will be invested, was established recently by the city, government with the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada (CICESE) affirmed Mayor Heriberto Renteria Sanchez.

The Mayor revealed that along with actions that are currently underway to optimize the use of water extracted from the ground, the municipal authority has not discarded the possibility of assuring water supplies through the desalination of seawater.

He noted that in order to support the growth of tourism in Peñasco, they are working on concrete steps towards the insalation of a desalination plant for the city, one that would require in initial investment of 1.7 million pesos.

He indicated that there have been important advances, and therefore estimates that positive results may be seen in the next two years.

The Mayor remarked that the installation of a desalination plant is a very good option, as it would be a complement to the 30″ diameter aqueduct currently being built for improved usage of the 600 liters per second put out by the city’s eleven wells.
