20 students receive degrees as University Technicians in Gastronomy

In an emotional ceremony, and as part of the academic tourism studies put into affect nearly two years ago, the first class recently graduated from the Puerto Peñasco branch of the Hermosillo Technological University (UTH).

Twenty young Puerto Peñasco students achieved their goals of becoming University Technicians in Gastronomy, and becoming part of the labor market in this city, particularly for the tourism sector.

With parents, family members, friends and educational and municipal authorities on hand, the event was held marking the graduation of the 2007-2009 class, the first to graduate from the local UTH.

On behalf of the graduates, Alejandro Puentes Adame stated the two years had gone by much quicker than he had expected. Nevertheless, the outlined goal was met in a satisfactory manner.

He highlighted in the planning of the event it was possible to combine flavors and nutrients, and prepare first rate quality items.

He believed that this class of University Technicians in Gastronomy is the result of tremendous team work, providing graduates with practical skills and not solely paper and pen studies.

The Director of the UTH, Miguel Angel Salazar Candia, acknowledged the effort of the graduates while stating that their achievements represent a triumph as well for those who have been behind their ongoing development.

He indicated that these 20 young students from the 2007-2009 class are very special, as they are the first, a privilege that no one can take away from them.

As any privilege, this implies responsibility. He invited them to put the name of the Hermosillo Technological University on the map.

Deputy Director of middle and higher education for the Secretary of Education and Culture (SAC), Vicente Pacheco Castañeda, emphasized that being the first class they are an essential and exemplary part of the UTH.

He stressed that given the importance of education and social development, the state government, under the leadership of Guillermo Padres, will provide greater promotion to higher education in order to assure that Sonora is more productive.
