THE REFRESHING SIDE OF THE EXERCISE

Fun exercise

The refreshing side of the exercise

Currently, if you ask 10 people why they exercise, it is very likely that the answer of 9 of those people is that they just want to lose weight. With so much publicity about how the human body is supposed to look in the esthetic sense, it´s not a surprise that many people worry about how they look (or, more specifically, about how they look to others). When an exercise routine is initiated under the influx or the concern of losing weight, it is easy to forget how fun, gratifying and innovative this activity can be. Personally, as much as I adore exercising, it turns out to be one of my favorite hobbies as long as the routine is always creative. Did you think that this couldn´t be possible? Well… it is. The routine doesn´t have to be the usual program of repetitive and predictable exercises that can lead you to boredom in the long run. How to exercise turns out to be real art when you require creativity to invent new ways of exercising. Here are some recreational ways to always transform your routine in something new:

1.- The music is the key.- It´s serious; even if it doesn´t seem to be so important, there´s a huge difference between exercising accompanied by any type of music than doing it with the music you really enjoy. It´s not unusual that we choose to play the music of just one CD with the catchy tunes we like; however, the error is playing the same CD for the whole 3 months. Try new music every time you can and you´ll see the difference.

2.- Accompany yourself with someone who shares the interest.- Is incredible how fun and stimulating it can be to share your exercise with one or several partners. If you go to the gym, always place yourself right next to that person who never fails to any of the sessions; for you, it will be a real incentive to watch a determined person doing the routine and you will be secretly challenging that person if you attend to all the sessions as well. If you like jogging or playing any sport, make sure to accompany yourself from an exercise pal who has enough determination to achieve the daily routine no matter what. You will see that you and your pal will be motivating each other.

3.- Change the panorama.- Let´s be honest: we human are not made to repeat any task when we are tired or bored. If one day you really feel you are tired or pessimistic, it´s time to change your routine by changing the panorama. If you usually attend the gym, replace it once in a while for a walk at the park or for a friendly front-tennis round. If you regularly exercise at home, it´s time for you to go out and do something new accompanied by your friends, like artificial rock climbing, join the kick boxing routine at the gym or a friendly foot ball game. If you have a bicycle, skate board, roller skates, treadmill or any other toy that you don´t use very often,  this is a very good time to enjoy it and invite a friend to use it with you. Remember that we are not chained o any particular routine.

New activities

New activities

4.- Always keep your mind open to new experiences.- If you are in the sports environment, it might happen that a person invites you to do something different one day. Sometimes we leave ourselves get intimidated by a new activity just by the fact that we have never practiced it before; then, we prefer to say no to that valuable invitation instead of giving ourselves the chance to practice something new. Therefore, always try to perform new activities and, Who knows! You might even find a new hobbie!

CEDO (Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans) is proud to announce the declaration of Bahía San Jorge’s wetlands as Wetlands of International Importance

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

As part of the celebration of World Wetlands Day on February 2nd, the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), Juan Rafael Elvira Quesada, announced the addition of the wetlands at Bahía San Jorge as one of seven new sites in the List of Wetlands of International Importance of the Ramsar Convention in 2010.

During the memorial ceremony on the island of San Pedro, in Yuriria, Guanajuato, the Secretary said that with this designation Mexico is now second in the world, behind only the United Kingdom, in the number of Ramsar sites it currently has. One hundred and thirty one sites exist and cover a total surface of eight million, 915 thousand, 433.7 hectares. The Convention on Wetlands, signed in Ramsar, Iran in 1971, is an intergovernmental treaty, which provides the framework for national action and international cooperation on the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources. Mexico joined the Convention on November 4, 1986.

The wetlands of Bahía San Jorge extend over more than 35 linear kilometers of coastline, from the northern tip of Estero Almejas to the southern tip of Estero San Francisquito. This Ramsar site brings together a combination of habitats, marshes, low intertidal mud, salt marshes, coastal dunes, sandy beaches, permanent shallow marine waters and wetland-terrestrial interface, connecting the earth system with one of the most productive marine systems world, the Gulf of California, and are in turn connected to the Sonoran Desert.

Currently, this area is of great importance for fisheries and aquaculture production, and for species, such as rays, guitarfish, shark, octopus, shrimp, and crab. Like other estuaries in the region, Bahía San Jorge’s wetlands serve as nesting, resting and feeding grounds for migratory and resident birds that are part of the Pacific Flyway, including species like the least tern, the American oystercatcher and savanna sparrow. The canals and marshes of the site serve as refuge and feeding areas for the larval and juvenile stages of fish and invertebrates, and as well as for feeding grounds for marine species. Bahía San Jorge also hosts a resident population of the bottlenose dolphin, an endangered species. There are also endemic species not found anywhere else in the world there, like the fisherman myotis bat.

The declaration of the Bahía San Jorge’s wetlands as Wetlands of International Importance increases support for conservation and sustainable use, which helps protect its ecological integrity, and continues to maintain important ecological functions and environmental services.

First Rocky Point Fly

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

First “Rocky Point Fly In” soon to take off

Aerial event

to take to the skies

PUERTO PEÑASCO’S FIRST “Rocky Point Fly In” event, scheduled for November, is geared at promoting aerial tourism as a complement to what the city has to offer, reported Alonso Domínguez Ruiz, airport administrator.

Dominguez Ruiz indicated that this first edition of the event, to take place November 14 – 16 and which they hope to hold at least once a year, will include the participation of national and international pilots.

He detailed that the “Rocky Point Fly In” is similar, in its own way, to the motorcycle rally. He explained it aims to attract the greatest number of 4 to 8 – seater private planes as possible, operated by individuals highly devoted to aviation.

The event is not to show off exhibition planes, he clarified, it is for private planes that will be on display for all to see and that may, at some point, participate in some competition.

Dominguez Ruiz stated they are expecting participation of pilots principally from Arizona, Nevada and California.

He remarked they already have at least 33 planes registered, although they do not have a defined goal concerning participation in this first “Rocky Point Fly In.”

The Puerto Peñasco international airport administrator indicated that the $259 US registry pilot packet includes two nights and three days with lodging, meals and transportation.

He pointed out the support of the Municipal Administrator, and that of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, have been possible, as well as that of the Sonora Commission for the Promotion of Tourism.

These join efforts, he added, has allowed them to put together attractive packages for participants in the “Rocky Point Fly In” and establish a foundation to offer this as an additional option to attract tourism to Puerto Peñasco.
